I recall many, many years ago doing a fashion show in my hometown. One of the other models that I worked with shared that she had worked at a thrift store over in another town. I was on public transportation at the time so I just knew I wouldn’t be visiting any time soon. Anyway, fast forward years later, I reconnected with her via Facebook. As I browsed through her pics, I noticed how cute and well put together her outfits always were. I thought now that I am mobile, I think I should make that trip to this thrift store where she worked. Either she is getting paid a little more than I imagined, being able to afford the brands that she rocked, or I am guaranteed to find some gems there myself.
Let me say that this was my first time ever going to a thrift store. I didn’t know what to expect really. “Will I be spending hours digging through bins full of shirts and mix-matched shoes?” or “Will I go in and spot someone’s mothers old culottes?” Well I made it to the store and to my surprise, it actually looked like a real store! At the front of the store on one side are fully stocked shoe, handbag and belt racks. A few feet away are a multiple racks of shirts and blouses, followed by racks and racks of jeans! I knew at that moment that that day was going to be a good day. And not to mention, some BIG brand names in the mix.
My first thrift trip was waaay too long ago for me to recollect all my deals and findings but pictured above is one of my latest thrift hauls, 7 assorted basic tees, tanks and blouses for under $15 bucks! From Old Navy and Talbots, to name a few. This particular haul was made on one of my fav, ‘Two dollar Tuesday’ sales at my local Goodwill.
Have you ever heard of the term, ‘Different strokes for different folks’? Well it perfectly describes the thrifting world. While you may rack up on jeans at one store, another store may only be good for nice tops and another for home furnishings. I try to make it out thrifting several times a month so I will be sharing some other great hauls along the way to help inspire your inner thrifter.
